It's A FAMILY CIRCUS...NO FOOLIN!!!

Mama said, "Jackson, did you know the Circus is in town?"

Jackson said, "No, GreatGrandma!  What's a Circus?"

Well, Jackson, let your Nana...this GRIT...tell you a story about your GreatGrandma, the Circus and April Fools Day!

Growing up in small town West Texas was pretty much same ole same ole everyday stuff.
In other words, nothing very exciting happened.  So when the Traveling Circus rolled into town the last week of March in 1963 and set up the BigTent with all the Circus Animals in the pasture down the road, it was a BIG DEAL!

The Five of Us Kids could hardly wait for the show to open on April 1st...well, four of us...Stacy was about your age, Jackson.  He didn't know what a Circus was either.

It was a school day...just like any other school day...four sleepy kids to get out of bed, feed breakfast and get on the bus.  That was Mama's routine...the four of us did it every day of the week.

GET UP...GET UP!!! HURRY...HURRY!!! There are ELEPHANTS in the yard!!!
We shot out of bed and ran to the window!!!
No Elephants!!!
We turned and looked at our Sweet Innocent Mama who said, in her quiet sweet voice, "APRIL FOOLS"!
She went back to stirrin gravy and makin biscuits!
Sisters and the Squirt looked at me and said,
What's an April Fools and where are the Elephants?

Mama with her Grands and GreatGrands!

That was Forty-Seven April Fools ago, Jackson!
And...Look what your GreatGrandma's Five Gullible Kids created.....
Their own FAMILY CIRCUS!

So, Mama, thanks for the Forever April Fools Memory!

PS...Jackson, did you know that there is an Elephant that can Fly?
His name is Dumbo.  I will read you his story real soon!

NO FOOLIN!!!

  8. Hey Sue, I thought you were on a trip. I have been gone so long I guess I just lost track of time. Or!!! it is old age. I'll never admit to that. HA!

I adore your April Fools story. I have five children and they too have long legs like my mom's side of the family. My Uncle was 5'8" Well my youngest one doesn't. He regrets it too. His sister is taller than he is. LOL.

Your family stories are so wonderful. I also love the photo of your siblings and you with your mom. Large families are so special when there is lots of love going around. I know that is true with your family and mine too. You not only have lucky lips you have the luck of being born into a loving family. Me too. I think my lips might be lucky too. HA! My husband thinks so. We were marries in 1963! Fifty years is close. How did this happen??????

I do love your posts Sue.

    Hugs xoxo, Jeanne

  9. Good Morning Sue Sweetie...
This post is so darn cute. I love your sweet Moma and her story telling to Jackson is just precious.

You have a very large family sweetie, and I also notice that there are not a lot of gals, you have mainly guys. I would say it makes those few gals pretty darn special. I love all the faces. Just precious Sue, just precious.

Please stop by and read my Pink Saturday post tomorrow. I love it when you do.

Country hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry
