My Behind Assessment for WIP Wed

Boy, did my 'OverDoSueness' in January put me BEHIND in February!!!
It's not that I didn't KeepUp, Finish, and CheckOff the SewIn's, FinishAlongs, OnLine Classes, Swaps, SewAlongs, WIP's, several 'GottaStarts',and BloggedItAll...I did ALL that. Whew!!!  But in the process,  'OverDoSue' kind of got 'Sew/BloggedOut'.

The result?  SlowDown February!!

It's a short month afterall, and if there is going to be a time to get Behind...well, at least there are fewer days to Assess My Behind...projects.  On the bright side, March is coming with it's two more days than February, so I should be all caught up by April.  That's when the AtoZ April Challenge starts on CollectInTexas Gal.  But, I'm getting ahead of myself which is counter productive to focusing on my behindness...so back to February.   (More about AtoZ later...in the meantime check it out....link on the SideBar).
Here's what's on my machine for WIP Wednesday!
APRONS!
Sewing Aprons is part of my 'UseIt or LoseIt'...'GetErDone' In 2013....afterall
the Fabrics have been in my STASH for way over at least THREE years.
Isn't this too cute fabric?  Perfect for Aprons!
I made this one for my Sister....she sent me one for my Birthday that inspired me to get into
'The Apron Fabric Stash' and GetEmDone.
And then there was her followup Text and Pic that said...
'Luv this fabric and colors.  I need an Apron'.
I put hers in the mail yesterday and cut out and started sewing on TWO more.
Watch for them in my ETSY shop...A Quilt Store and More!
Taking a break from and getting Behind in Quiltmaker Projects, Curves Class and Blogging
in February will work out okay.
Afterall, I have March!
Who knows, I may be 'Marching' to the Beat of....who knows what?
Oh well, at least I've Assessed my Behind....Projects....and have my Front covered....with Aprons!

Favorite Stitching Bling and Fabric Jewels

If ever there was such a thing as 'Stitching Bling'...I have it in this Bejeweled Miniature Sewing Machine Jewelry Box.
A very special and Favorite Thing...a gift from a very special and favorite person...my Sister.
If ever there was a such a thing as Fabric Jewels...I have them, too.
They are called Batiks and Marbles and when pieced together they truly sparkle and shine like Jewels.
I just finished this BeJeweled Table Runner.
It was an Improv Curve Project in an Internet Class I'm taking with Rachel at Stitched in Color.
Improv means you Rotary Cut Freehand (without rulers) and stitch the curved pieces without pinning.
Kind of like 'Flying by the Seat of Your Pants'...I do that alot...so this was right up my Improv Alley.
I ImprovCut a basket full of strips then pieced them in pairs...then in fours and so on until I had four strips long enough for a Table Runner.  The real ImprovCuts came when Rachel said to overlap the strips and Freehand Cut two strips following the gentle curve made by piecing angled strips together.  Yikes...it was kinda scary even for an 'Experienced Pants Flyer'.  I loved it...can't wait to slice up some more strips to add to the leftovers and start again.  I see an Improv Curve Bed Quilt in my future.
I'm really lovin' this Jewel encrusted table runner.
I'm thinking I need to  have it insured.
Afterall, there are at least a dozen Saphires, twenty Aquamarine,  ten or so Amethyst,
two dozen Rubies, lots of Citrine and I don't know how many Emeralds.
All....my Favorite Gem Stones.
Oh, and the backing and binding....rich as can be...don't you agree?

Clam CoverUp...Curves Class Project

CoverUp...What a versatile word, and one that relates to a variety of situations/events/objects.
These days we are all familiar with the 'Scandalous CoverUps' in the news.
Then there are the SwimSuit CoverUps that don't really CoverUp much, and could be viewed as Scandalous.
I personally am part of the CoverGirl CoverUp.
Oh, and I absolutely am on board with all the Warm CoverUps like sweaters, scarves, and shawls.
Even Victoria's Secret claims to have a corner on the market of CoverUps....again...not much covered there.
Back in the 1980's there was a TV Series called CoverUp starring Jennifer O'Neill.
Of course there is a book entitled 'CoverUp'...noticed it on Amazon.
And not to be left out of the CoverUp Craze is a company called CoverUP that lets you
Personalize Your Gadget CoverUps...iPhone, iPad, Galaxys, and more.
Here's my GADGET that needed a CoverUp.
It's my Funky Shaped Janome Embroidery Machine...narrow at the back and wide in the front.
To cover it with the hard cover that came with it, I have to UnPlug the cord and pedal, remove the USB Gadget,
take down the Multiple Thread Holder Thingy...you get the picture.
Now She's Covered and happy as a Clam..or at least I am.
A perfect solution to the Funky Shape...A Fold To Fit Sewing Machine Cover!
Everything still pluged in and ready to go, yet covered and protected from dust, lint and other sewing room flying objects.

The Clam CoverUp is made from a LongArm Pattern Sampler made years ago for customers to see how a pattern would look stitched on their quilt top.  I have lots of these samplers, and it was just the right size to stitch the clamshells to.  The Stitchin' Fabrics are from my Sewing-Quilting Theme Stash, and the Clamshell pattern from Rachels Curves Class.
Don't you just 'Heart' the Sewing Machine Pin?
It's the Perfect Ending for the ClamCoverUp!

Clam Quilt Chowder...Curves Class Recipe

Soups On, Ya'll...Clam Quilt Chowder Soup that is....and I didn't even have to 'Dig the Clams'.
Which is certainly a good thing since Clamshell's are hard to find here in West Texas.
Lucky me to be taking Rachel's Curves Class.
Yep, I 'Downloaded' instead of 'DugUp' the Clam Pattern.
The Clamshell project designed by Rachel is a Pillow Cover, but I've tapped into one of my
Aquarian Birthday Horoscope's Blooming Creative Solutions
and adapted the Pillow Cover into a slightly different Cover...to be revealed later.
Rachel suggested fusing the clams with fusible web or a fabric glue stick to hold
them in place while you are stitching them.
I used Roxanne's Glue Baste-It....love this stuff....a dot or two is all it takes...heat set then stitch!
No fuss...No Mess...No Sticky Needle...No Worries!!!
Here's my Clamshell LineUp!
Time to Go Clamming....I mean Stitching!

Curves Class APP?

Is there an APP for that?
I've wanted to say that ever since I got my Smart Phone.
I don't think there is an APP for The Curves Class I'm taking, but I really don't need one...
I've got the Link on my Phone.
Yep, I'm feelin' very HiTech and WithIt this morning
I've got my coffee, I'm in my Jammies and I'm going to my Second Curves Class!
Seriously, this is 'Amazing' for an Old School Gal who's prep for classes in the past required:
*Shower, shampoo and legs shaved.
*Full on MakeUp and Hair Fixin'
*Dressed from Head to Toe
*Books, Bag, Pens, Paper etc.etc.
*Thirty minute drive to campus...another thirty finding a parking spot.
You get the picture...right?
The Second Curves Project is a BIB.
I used scraps of flannel left over from Jammies.  I'm working with what's in my Stash!
One of my goals for 2013...UseIt or LoseIt.
Some details...PAW Button over the snap and HerringBONE decorative stitch!
Back of Bib...pieced with bias tape covering the seams.
Now who's going to use this Bib?
My youngest GrandGuy is now three...no way will he wear a Baby Thingy!
But he does love to eat with the fork and spoon that was his Daddy's.
That was Forty years ago, and Baby Bibs, Forks and Spoons haven't changed much.
But going to Class sure has!

Curved ButterFly Bunting...It IS EZPeasy

There's not many piecing skills I haven't tried.  I'm pretty much a whiz with the straight line cutting and stitchin so long as I can cut with a Rotary Cutter and Ruler and stitch with The Quarter Inch Foot.  It is well known that many piecers suffer from CurvItisNegative Disorder, and I'm not an exception.  I've been tested.  The patch test came back Positive and I failed the Concave/Convex Visual...it was so confusing.  I've always prided myself with my scissor snipping skills, but I was a disaster with curves...I notched when I should have clipped or was it visa versa.  Anyway,  after that first attempt at curves....drunkards path block....now I understand why it's called that...you need a few slugs under your belt to go down that notched path.  As I was saying, after that first try, I just moved on and stayed on the Straight and Narrow Rotary/Ruler Path.  Until now!

Just look at this curved stitching. It's Easy Peasy! That's what Rachel at Stitched In Color says about the first project in The Curves Class that I'm taking...over the internet...how curvey cool is that!!!

I'm all over this curve cutting and sewing since Rachel explained the difference between Concave and Convex and best of all there is NO Notching or Clipping.

You gotta know about this cure for CurvItis Disorder...it's a 'Rotary Cutter PINKING Blade'. It sure made The Scallop Bunting Project a Quick N Easy Peasy project.

Thanks Rachel for the great instructions and step by step pictures. I did add one thing...'tear away stablizer'.  Oh, and one more thing I added...Seven Bunts instead of Six.  They are called Bunts, right?
I decided to make the Scalloped Bunting Project to go with another Internet Sewing Event...
The New Year SewAlong which I'm not ready to show just yet.
In order for the Bunting to go with the quilt, I needed to use a few more fabrics and it was
necessary...no...imperative that it balance and match.
You see I also have a Genetic disorder....CS-MMb....you can get the scoop on that HERE.
Here's my Finished NoNotched EasyPeasy Butterfly Bunting
on the Design Wall...and a peek at the New Year SewAlong UnFinished Quilt Top.
And just think...I did it all without a Single Drunkards Path Slug under my belt!
Have Pinking Blade...CanDo Curves!!!

Hello and Hello...My Name is Sue

As I'm sitting here ripping out stitches, which doesn't require as much focus as the piecing done just yesterday when I was sure that this border was exactly the way I wanted it, anyway, as I'm ripping off all four multi-pieced, outer borders I'm contemplating how to introduce myself to the participants of the Curves Class.

It's not that I don't have a Sewing/Quilting Story....I do, but it's a pretty long story and probably would bore them into ripping off the borders of a perfectly pieced quilt top just to keep from moving on to the next click here or their browser button for more stimulating quilt talk.

That's one thing about interacting over the internet...when you've had enough of one thing there's  there's always that Button.  On the flip side...when you are really interested in something and want to meet like minded folks you need to wear a 'Thimble' to keep from getting a blister on your clickin'-stitchin' finger.  That's how I found out about The Curves Class and Rachels Stitched In Color website...clickin' around the Quilting www.  I love Rachels Sewing/Quilting Story....HERE.  I admire her ingeniuty, her 21st Century Tech Savy, and her love of sewing/quilting/needlework.
Okay, I'm ready...here's a short version of my Sewing/Quilting Story.
Once upon a time....just kidding...it's shorter than that...in fact with just one click you can read how I got started sewing....HERE.  I'll let you go there at your leisure and descretion, and I'll get on with the Quilting Story.
My first quilt was a rail fence, machine pieced and handquilted. In the late 1980's I decided to learn to quilt, and at the time I was teaching a watercolor class at the Senior Citizens Center.   Those sweet ladies loved being Seniors.  They took advantage of every class offered at the center from SkipBo to SkinnyDipping...just kidding...they wore Bikinis...under MuMu's.  After watercolor class, they went straight to the Quilting Bee room, took a spot around the suspended from the celling quilting frame and started stitching.

"Oh No, honey, you're much too young to join the Senior Bee."
That was the answer I got when I asked if they would teach me how to quilt.   Well, to make a long story short, after I pointed out that if they were young enough to take FREE watercolor classes that surely I was old enough to be in the Bee....they agreed, and I was hooked.

One quilt led to another and ten years later  I was 'Old' enough and  retired enough to get really hooked on Quilting.  As it happens with retired Art Teachers, the love of creating and teaching led me to open Sue's Quilt Shop.  Yep, it was probably inevitable and there was no way the Gammill Longarm was going to fit in the spare bedroom/sewing room.  Anyway, it was my husbands brilliant idea when he said, "Looks like you have enough material to open a fabric store."  "What a great idea", I said, and for another ten years I lived a Quilters Dream.
Time flies when your having fun!  And flyby it did.  Here I am a few years later a Retired Quilt Shop Owner living in a new town with my retired husband and back in my Home Quilting Sewing Studio, and yes it has room for QuiltALottie (Longarm Gammill).  You can read about my Studio on this post.
Time still is flying by.  It seems like just yesterday, I decided to be a Blogger.  CollectInTexas Gal will have a Four Year BlogAversary this year...again..."Time Flies when your having FUN"!
In 2013 my Blogging Focus is on Quilting....you can read about my
New Year Beginnings on this post

Jumping Into January With Both SnapOn Feet

I'm so happy to have a Sewing Machine with Interchangeable SnapOn Feet.
It looks like I'll be Snapping them On and Off quite a lot here in The New Year of 2013.
For sure in January.
Just look what I've lined up for myself...
I could have titled this post

Just last month...seems like only a couple of days ago...my Memory Craft 10000
found it's way back from several years of hibernation.
While it was on an extended hibernation vacation, Janome has Updated  TWICE.
HERE is the latest Janome Memory Craft 12000
Guess who IS NOT getting Updated....I mean it this time!!!
Afterall, just look what the 'OldGalJanome' can still do!
I have FINISHED the FIRST Four Blocks of Twelve for the Winter White Friendship Exchange.
The Second Set is cut out and ready to Sew...I'll post about that later.
For now, I'd better SnapToIt with
