The Horrible Truth Lies Deep Inside

BwaaaaaHaHa!!!!

An October Night...by Charles Audette

The wind whispers
A wary warning
There was plenty, still
Early this morning

These primal urges
Are hard to fight
An unholy diet
A dark appetite

The pavement scrapes
With scuttling leaves
I'll pull the drapes
And hope to deceive

The moon suffocates
In ominous clouds
Shut off the lights
Heartbeats too loud

Then the neighbor's gate creaks
But it's not the wind
That seeks to feast
On fearing humans

Red brake lights
A car crawls by slow
The shadowy shapes
On my dark doorstep know

That the empty window
Of my house lies.
The horrible truth
Hides deep inside

Everything tonight
Could have been just dandy
But now the demons have wrath -
Cause I ate all the candy!

F is for...Friendship

TEXAS...The Friendship State!!!

Known through out the Land....
aww heck...why not....
...Through out the Whole Wide World as the Friendliest State in the USA.

In fact it's a part of the Texas State Statuets...Govt. Code, Chapter 3101, Section 3101..004....

Friendship
The State Motto of Texas

Does Your State have a Motto?
I bet it does and you can find out HERE.

Texas is also known as the Lone Star State in reference to the Texas State Flag. The flag displays a single, five-point white star on a field of blue with an upper white horizontal stripe and a lower red horizontal stripe.

As seen in this quilt block, the Texas Lone Star is the Symbol found on everything from Lone Star Beer to....well, my 'Work In Forever Progress' Texas My Texas Quilt!

The Texas Ranger Star is a 'Pieced Block' that represents the Texas Rangers Badge.  For those of you who are not qulters...pieced means each piece is sewn together with inset seaming...this one done on the machine...yikes...no wonder it's still a WIP.

The row of Four Stars across the top are Pieced Friendship Star Blocks to represent Texas as the Friendship State.  Ya know...there's more F words in Texas than I realized.

Now, I'm going to show Ya'll one more Block of my WIP Texas Quilt, and then I'm going to save the rest for the Letter Q....maybe I'll have it put together by then...or Not!  Anyway, about this block.  First of all it represents the Texas State Bird...The Mockingbird.. and it is Appliqued.  Which means that the pieces are cutout, layered on top of a background and stitched down.  The row under the Mockingbirds represent the Mountains of Texas and are pieced.  Yep, we do have Mountains in Texas...some here in West Texas called the Davis Mountains around Fort Davis...there ya go another Letter F in Texas.

Sun, Shadow and Jackson Play...At The Pumpkin Patch

We visited the Pumpkin Patch today and watched our Grandson Jackson play.

We visited the Pumpkin Patch today, and I watched the Sun and Shadows play!

Here's a of quote I really like about Pumpkins....

"Produce great pumpkins...the pies will follow later"

"Vegetables are a must in every diet.  I suggest zuchini bread, carrot cake and pumpkin pie"

Last year my single sister and I baked pumpkin pies for the holidays, and as we were preparing the pumpkins she said,

"You know Men are like pumpkins."
"Oh yeah, how's that", I asked.
"Well, it seems the good ones are either taken or they've had everything scraped
out of their heads with a spoon."

Where There Is Unity...There Is Strength

Be Still My Soul Hymn
Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise
On earth, be leaving, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,
So shall He view thee with a well pleased eye.
Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine.

If Not for Pink Saturday....

...I would have not known Jeanne of Backyard Neighbor was NOT Beverly of How Sweet The Sound!
Back in September 2009 this pretty face was on Pink Saturdays Sidebar. I just assumed it was our Beloved Hostess.
A month or so of Pink Saturdays went by and I visited Backyard Neighbor and there was our Hostess Beverly's picture.
Now, I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night, so I figured out real quick that Beverly had TWO Blogs.....for the rest of the story click HERE.

If Not for Pink Saturday...

I would have always thought of PINK as Just Another Color.

I would have Not had the Most Outrageous Birthday Party In Blogland!

I would NOT have met Sherry at Country Wings In Phoenix, and she would not have won the Pink Attitude Plate!

I would not have known that Dolly Parton and I share the same Birthday Month and have so much in common....check us out HERE

If Not for Pink Saturday...I would have missed the chance to know the real meaning of Faith Hope and Charity as the Pink Saturday Participants 'Joined Hands and Organizations in Support of Humanity in Need in Haiti.  Pink Saturday January 15, 2010...Joining Hands Through Faith Hope and Charity.
If Not for Pink Saturday...I would not have had the opportunity to share with Ya'll the Amazing Pinks of Texas!  One of the Highlights of CollectInTexas Gal was the invitation to participate in the Artful Blogging Magazine Feature on Pink Saturday.  Artful Plans for Artful Bloggin' for Artful Pink Saturday was the Post where the Celebration of Pink Saturdays Second Anniversary began.
If Not for Pink Saturday...I wouldn't be able to say that being a part of Pink Saturday has enriched not only my Blogging experience, but also my everyday life in so many ways.
Who knew that a Computer and Blogging would open up a whole new world of Writing, Art, Photography and Friendships!
Because of Pink Saturday...This Girl Raised In Texas is Blessed and Enriched Beyond Belief.

If Not for Pink Saturday...Well, I just wouldn't be here with all my Pink Craziness and

E is for Enchilada~TexMex Style

BienVenidos mi Amigas!
That's Spanish for Welcome my Friends...(gender biased Amigas...gals)...Okay, and Amigos!
In keeping with my Texas Alphabet Theme... for the
Letter E here's the Whole Enchilada!!!

The waitress comes to our table and says...
Here's the menu!  How would you like your Enchiladas?  Skinny or Fat?
I look at HiHoney...he's pattin' his paunch and peerin' over his readin' specs and says....
I should have the Skinny and She should have the Fat, but I think we will both have the
WHOLE ENCHILADA Plate!

Now This is What I'm Talking About!  Green Chicken Enchiladas!  TexMex Style!   Ole' Ya'll!

The term "TexMex" first entered the common lexicon as a nickname for the Texas-Mexican Railway, chartered in 1875.

Train schedules, published in newspapers, abbreviated the names of railroads. For example, the Missouri Pacific was called the Mo. Pac. and the Texas-Mexican was abbreviated Tex. Mex.

It was in the 1920s that the hyphenated form was used in reference to the railroad as well as to describe people of Mexican descent who were born in Texas.

Food historians claim that the first print evidence of "TexMex" in reference to food happened in 1945.

From there, TexMex restaurants slowly surfaced outside the Southwest U.S. in cities with substantial Hispanic populations.

Then TexMex went "gourmet". In the 1970s Mexican culinary expert Diana Kennedy is credited for taking this common food and making it trendy fare and a new "must-eat" cuisine.

The cuisine actually originated with the Texans of Hispanic descent or Tejanos, as a hybrid of Spanish and Mexican Indian foods when Texas was still part of New Spain and, later, of Mexico.

Served at dinner tables across the South Texas region, between San Antonio to Brownsville, this cuisine has varied little from its earliest origins and was heavily influenced by the cuisine in the neighboring northern states of Mexico. Originally, TexMex started with a taste for cabrito (kid goat), barbacoa (barbecued cow heads), carne seca (dried beef), and other products of cattle culture that were common on both sides of the Rio Grande during that period.

OOPS!  Sorry Ya'll....I should have put up a RedHotChili Flag on that last sentence!
We're use to the Cabrito and Barbacoa here in Texas....Yankees....not so much!

Here's what ya drink with the Whole Enchilada Plate!
Margaritas!
What's To Know About Margaritas!
TEQUILA!
Choosing the right tequila is the key to creating the perfect margarita recipe.
Tequila is required to be at least 51% agave. Premium tequila has the best taste and quality.
It is made with 100% blue agave juices and must be distilled and bottled in Mexico.
"Tequila 100% de Agave" or "Tequila 100% puro de Agave" must comply with strict Mexican government regulations.
Ya'll might remember my Letter A post...

Now, Mi Amigas and Amigos....Here's what you Do AFTER you've had the Whole Enchilada Plate and a couple of Primo Margaritas.   Turn Up Your Volume!

Now, I bet you are ready to grab your HiHoney and TexMex FreeStyleSpin your way over to Jennys.

 Letter E
PS...Just so Ya'll know...It takes more than a couple of Margaritas for HiHoney to do The Inside Turn and after that he's really Looped for The Loop!  We usually leave The Hurricane for our last few Dance Steps....out the door!  Ole'!!!
PPS...I swear I didn't have any Tequila when I did the Margarita photo!
