Survival of the Fittest In The Red Rocks of Texas

In West Texas, cactus, grass and trees put down roots in what seems to be solid rock.  It's a mystery to some as to how a clump of cactus can thrive in rock.  Mystery solved...cacti have a very shallow root system.
Of an even greater intrique is how the mighty Oak can grow and thrive in rock.  As you can see, the oak growing out of the Red Rocks is a variety of Oak called ScrubOak.  In parts of West Texas there are ScrubOak Forests.

  6. I figure there's always something that will grow, even in the most unlikely place (like my garden sometimes!). Love how you captured the beauty of the desert!

  10. Morning Sue, the red rock is very pretty. We have red clay, not so pretty. HA! I love you sunset photos too. This is quick today. My grands will all be here and I'm baking and cooking. This week has been crazy busy getting ready for the onslaught.

Have a wonderful week. I will be on a blog break. The chaos in this house will not allow computer time. HA!
    Hugs, Jeanne
