Boomer Gloom and Doom

I thought I was done with knitting.  So done that much of my collection of 'fancy knitting yarns' are now for sale in my shop along with a good many knitting books and magazines.  I made the decision to 'NotKnit' when realizing I am better and faster at crochet.  To further justify giving up knitting and selling off  knitting stuff, I was patting myself on the back for downsizing the 'YarnArama' stash, emptying several shelves of books and magazines, and saving myself from 'Boomer Gloom and Doom'.

I am here to tell you that 'Boomer Gloom and Doom' is a real thing when you know your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends not of 'Boomer Age' DO NOT want your 'Knit Picks' or any other Pickings you have saved and treasured for....well, forever!

It's true, and I am not the only one on the planet who is facing the reality of my 'Stuff' being dismissed as Garge Sale Fodder, Craigs List Crap or even worse...Dumpster Divers Dregs!

Here I am a Boomer with Bunches, and what do I do to put off the impending Boomer G&D?
I take up knitting....again!

    Hubby and the kids all know how to get on my Treadle On site, to dispose of my vintage machines, and also how to reach several people in both my quilt guilds, to dispose of my fabric, etc. I tell them, over and over, which things are worth $$ and which one's aren't worth much. Of course, it doesn't help that I brought home a vintage (1985-91) long arm set-up yesterday, and that is one more thing for them to deal with (we're still dealing with were to put it). I hope I can get it up and running one day soon.

      Good for you to make plans for your machine collection. Your guild friends will know exactly what to do. I have taken care of a few quilter friends estates. WOW an older model longarm! What fun you are going to have with that. I do miss mine, but not so much to want to have another one. Good luck!

      I do like that phrase 'Everything old is new again', and perhaps some of my stuff will make that come true for someone one of these days. Of course I plan to use it up before then...LOL! Yes, I think I will keep knitting...at least until I finish this shawl.

    I had to downsize my mother in law two years ago and you are so right - no one wanted her stuff and no one will want my stuff, either. I vote for doing whatever makes you happy. At least, I never had to choose between crochet and knitting because I was never able to learn to knit (despite 3 attempts) but crocheting has been my "thing" for some 47 years now.       Yes, let's do 'Whatever makes us happy'. I too am a lifelong crocheter! It will always be my favorite yarn sport...LOL!
