It was pandemonium in the Courthouse Chamber! Those 'Sweet Lil' BlueHaired Ladies' were elbowing their way to Flo's Fabric Shop on Wheels while Alma and Grace were digging their way to the bottom for several pieces of Moda Marble. Diane and the usually passive Sarah, were like two calico cats scratching it out over a bolt of a big splashy floral print. I was sure we were just seconds away from a 'Fabric Frenzy FreeForAll'!
"Excuse me, ya'll, I was just wondering about The Grand Jury Room".
The Frenzy continued!
"EXCUSE ME, WHAT and WHERE is THE GRAND JURY ROOM"
The Frenzy Froze!
The Armadillo's were clutching scraps of 30's flour sacks, Grace had her arms full of Marbles, Sarah forfeited her hold on the floral, and Alma patted her Helmet Hair in place and in her best presidental voice said...
"Right this way".
As Alma unlocked the door, I heard Sweet Sarah whisper to Diane, "This ain't over, you know." Diane's retort was drowned out by the squeaky hinges and the wood floor scrapping noises as the massive door to the Grand Jury Room opened.Alma led the way into what I can only describe as "The Big Quilting-Fabric Room InTheSky". I swear, I heard angels singing "Haaaalleluuuujah" as the clouds parted and rays of light spotlighted the neatly folded stacks and bolts of fabric on shelf after shelf after shelf around the room. It was exhilarating!!!! I felt Blessed and it was all I could do not to fall on my knees and shout..."There is a Quilt Goddess".
While I stood there with my mouth forming a 'BigOMG', Flo wheeled past with her 'Scrambled Stash'. In seconds the Frenzy FreeForAll'ers were calmly folding and filing fabric on the shelves of what was truly and aptly named 'The Grand Jury Stash'....I'd serve on this Grand Jury forever.
It took several minutes for the Angels voices to clear from my head and to regain my sense of earthliness. As I wandered around the room I noticed the tables and chairs arranged in what looked like a class setting. Each of the tables had several Featherweight Sewing Machines, and all the necessary tools needed for cutting, piecing and pressing a quilt block or complete top.
I commented to Josephine who was all of a sudden standing beside me, "When I die, I want to live here...it would be like winning the Fabric Lotto". As serious as 'sticking a thousand needles in your eye', Josephine said matter of factly, "That is how this room came to be!" I followed her pointing finger to the sign above the door.
Diane to Sarah
"Friendship is sewn with love and measured by kindness, here, I'll measure you off a yard."
Sarah to Diane
"One yard of fabric, like one cookie, is never enough!"
Bea to Irene
"Love is the thread that binds us."
Irene to Bea
"Our lives are like quilts, bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love."
Alma to Grace
"Quilting fills my days, not to mention the living room, bedroom and closets."
Grace to Alma
"Creative clutter is better than idle neatness."
Sue to Josephine
"Blessed are the piecemakers."
Josephine to Sue
"Quilts connect the past with the present and the future"
See Ya, tomorrow for Letter H....Halle-lol-luuuujha!!!
Very cool! Just visiting today from the A-Z Challenge Juliet atCity Muse Country Muse
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling of angels singing the Hallelujah. I've experienced it in Art shops, book stores and the tools department. :D
ReplyDeleteYes! I have that feeling in large libraries when I open the door and am met with a sea of lovely books just begging to be read. I adore libraries. :)
ReplyDeleteOh how I'd love to sneak a peak at that room! I hear the angels singing when I visit my best area quilt shop. I don't get there all that often due to proximity (45 min!) and whenever I'm there I'm afraid I'm about to spend all of Dr. Love's hard-earned money!
ReplyDeleteI've taken daycare kids there with me, but only one at a time. Their presence usually keeps me from staying too long.
Can't wait for tomorrow's story!
I love all the sayings and plays on words.
ReplyDeleteHow funny and too cute! And I'm familiar with those Hallelujah angels. They get pretty loud when I walk into a Friends of the Library book sale! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, Very fun little narrative and loved how you finished it. Enjoyed my stop from A to Z. God bless, Maria from Delight Directed Living
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteWow! What a funny post. I am a fabric-holic too, although not a big quitter. I make kitty quilts and some lap quilts, not too many big ones. I make clothes mostly, or purses, etc. I would have gone nuts in a room surrounded by fabric. I have a room in my house devoted to sewing and crafts. My husband says I have way too much stuff!
I am also a writer, so have another room that is wall to wall books where I am right now sitting on my computer, visiting some of the A to Z blogs.
I'm also from TX originally. I'm following you now.

Very enjoyable post! When I was a little girl I used to go fabric hunting with my Nana who loved to sew. She was very thrifty, a dollar per yard or less was her rule.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Great post. I know a room like this, in the back of a store in a little country town. You walk inside, and stare in awe. They even run bus tours from local (much larger) towns.
ReplyDeleteThe only trouble is choosing which fabric to buy!

ReplyDeleteI'm still snickering over this one! Oh how true it is! My goal since I've been out of the hospital is to organize my fabric...I'm not getting very far since I keep ending up back in and am also not supposed to be lifting anything. But I think the truth of the matter is, quilting stuff really just has invaded :-) Hee, hee
Loving your posts!
I think I'm in the running for 'most fabric wins', and I've only been quilting since 2001. Oh to have a Featherweight!
